The Wiz is an upbeat and soulful twist to The Wizard of Oz. Originally opening on Broadway in 1975 starring Charlotte resident Stephanie Mills and Ted Ross, The Wiz won 8 Tony awards including “Best Musical.” In 1977 the movie was released starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Lena Horne and the music supervision of Quincy Jones.
The cast consists of 38 children from all over the Charlotte metropolitan area. The ages range from 7 to 16. Some of the children have been with the NoDa School of Arts since it opened in 2005 and for some this will be their first time performing on stage. The Wiz is a wonderful family show to be enjoyed by all!
NoDa School of the Arts is a non-profit organization that provides high quality performance and fine arts training to urban youth.
