EI Workshops

Find out why these FREE workshops and activities are so popular.  Come out and experience these fun events featuring local artists, specialists, or experts as they prepare you to know more about upcoming shows at the Center.  The Get to Know the Show events are held at the Blumenthal Center, and a variety of locations throughout the community.  All attendees receive special discounts on show tickets (subject to availability).  If you would like to deepen your enjoyment and appreciation of the creative artistry, the topics, stories, or themes that are part of the Center’s main stage shows, and have fun while you’re learning, then you don’t want to miss these Get to Know the Show events!  The events are FREE, but Sign-Up is Required.

    Join us for two FREE lunch time demos at the Wachovia Atrium in support of the upcoming African Children’s Choir at the Knight Theater on March 15–16, 2010. Local artists, Jermaine Nakia Lee, Michael Porter, and Ranata Wingo, will highlight the elements of a cappella, unison and harmony involved in choral singing and demonstrate the versatility of the voice. At these demonstrations, interested spectators may request a flier with a discount to the show from the Blumenthal Center booth.

    Join us for a free Get to Know My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish and I’m in Therapy workshop in support of Steve Solomon’s My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy performance at the Booth Playhouse on March 16th. At this workshop, local comedy troupe, Robot Johnson will explore and explain the monologue techniques employed by Solomon in his highly acclaimed show. These techniques include characterization, improvisation and pantomime. Participants will also experience a mini-performance by Robot Johnson and learn characterization methods using comical impersonations and body/voice manipulation.

    Join us at ImaginOn’s World of Music Festival on Saturday, March 20th to learn more about TAO: The Martial Art of Drumming which will be performing at the Knight Theater on April 5th, 2010. While the Japanese Taiko drum is a simple traditional instrument, it contains more sound pressure than any of the world’s drums and conceals infinite percussive and musical possibilities. At the festival, Japanese Taiko drummers, Yoko and Rocky Iwashima will offer a glimpse of their cultural history by providing a demonstration and participatory activities based on the traditional art of Japanese Taiko drumming. Everyone who attends the demonstration will receive a flier with discounts to the TAO performance, and one lucky attendee will win a pair of tickets to the show.

    The World of Music Family Festival at ImaginOn is from 12:00PM - 3:00PM. But Get to Know TAO will be at 12:30PM and at 2:00PM.

    The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center is providing a great opportunity for you to learn from members of Parsons Dance through a free Get to Know Parsons Dance Lecture Demonstration. The program, led by Parsons' dancers, includes demonstration of their repertoire and elements of production. This unique opportunity provides the community with an opportunity to ask questions about Parsons Dance and its repertory and to personally meet the cast. Parsons Dance lecture-demonstrations are suitable for all ages (K-12, post-secondary and adult). All attendees will receive a voucher to redeem for a discount during Parsons Dance visit to Charlotte at the Knight Theater on March 25–28, 2010.  Tickets are subject to availability.
